New Car Ferry construction
progress will be posted below |

The process of constructing a new car ferry will be conducted in phases. The project will be funded by a Federal Grant and administered by the State of Wisconsin. The Cassville Harbor Commission is the local governing body of the Village of Cassville for operation of the Car Ferry. The Commission has appointed a Committee and directed it to proceed with the project. It will comply will all local, state, and federal guidelines. The first phase will be the design of the project. Letters were sent to ten potential marine design architecs requesting their qualifications to submit designs for approval. A list of four companies were chosen to submit bids for the design of the project. The bids were let on February 1st and are due February 19th. They will be opened at a 4PM meeting at Village Hall on February 22nd. Hopefully a designer can be chosen from these bids after the committee has had a chance to review them. After a designer is chosen, the design of the project will begin with an anticipated completion date prior to June. At that time, the completed design will enter the construction phase and will be submitted to the State of Wisconsin to request construction bids. The committee met on March 1st at 4:00 PM and elected to choose Farrell and Norton Naval Architects to provide the design for the new Cassville Ferry project. The design project needs to be completed and submitted to the State for release for construction bids by June 1st of this year. The committee is presently scheduling a meeting with Farrell and Norton to begin the process. The design phase is almost completed and will be submitted to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation by June 1st. The Wisconsin DOT will then prepare and release the design to shipyards for bids to construct the new vessel. Below, you can observe some of the architech drawings of the barge and boat. Once the bids are received by the Wisconsin DOT, the winning bid will be chosen by low bid. You can view the slideshow of these drawings below, and check back to this site for future updates. |
